2010 Ohio State Fair
July 28 - August 8, 2010
Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, OH
The Girl Scout Exhibit at the annual Ohio State Fair houses projects and displays based on Girl Scout program activities submitted by girls in the Girl Scout Councils serving the State of Ohio.
It is located each year in the Youth Discovery Center in the area of the fairgrounds north of 17th Avenue.
Thousands of fair goers each year visit the Girl Scout exhibit, giving us a very valuable opportunity to tell the Girl Scout story to thousands of people in a short time. It is called "high visibility!" We invite you to be a part of our exhibit.
Enter a Project
The Girl Scouts consider participation in the Ohio State Fair a privilege and an opportunity to share accomplishments, interests and ideas. Exhibits and displays must show high quality in effort, originality, neatness, and be consistent with the Girl Scouts program. BE A CRAFT TABLE - BOOTH ASSISTANT
If you are an individual girl or troop willing to work with others, we ask you to help us by being a Craft Table - Booth Assistant and present interactive (hands on) activities to those visiting the booth. For example, teaching people how to make quilts, friendship bracelets, tin punch and rope making. Something the people visiting the booth can participate in when they stop and see our exhibit. These hands on activities should be presented from 8:00-11:00 AM, 11:00-2:00 PM, 2:00-5:00 PM, and 5:00-8:00 PM daily. You can come up with your own activity and supplies or we will provide tin punch, rope making and other supplies for you to use in helping fairgoers make a craft to take with them. We will teach you how to do it when you arrive, so you can teach it to those visiting the booth.
IF YOU ARE A CRAFT TABLE - BOOTH ASSISTANT
A troop or individual should fill at least one three hour time slot. The time slots are suggested times. If your hands on activity takes longer, that is fine. Troops and individuals should arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled hands on activity. All participants will be awarded participation ribbons. We suggest all activities present Girl Scouts program at its best with variety and eye-catching activity. Bring along a poster that gives the name of your Council, Troop Number, Age Level, and the title of your activity for viewer's benefit. It is also permissible to pass out (free to viewers) an explanation of "how to do" the particular activity. Face painting, balloons, stickers, and any use of open flames are strictly forbidden by the Ohio Exposition Center. If you are planning to give away anything, it must be approved by the Ohio Exposition Center. A sample of the item should be sent by July 20th to Kay Quinton, Superintendent, 2335 Rudy Road, Troy, Ohio, 45373.
The committee will offer to the public special programs on July 28, July 30, and August 6. We would like your help with these programs if you plan on helping us in the booth on those days. So on SWAPS Day on July 28 you will be assigned a simple craft activity to teach if you register to help anytime between 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. On Discovering Art Day on July 30, you will be assigned a simple art activity to teach if you register to help anytime between 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. On Science Day, August 6, you will be assigned a simple science activity to teach if you register to help anytime between 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM.
Your girls should be in appropriate Girl Scout attire unless it is a costumed activity. There are limited facilities for changing clothes in the building. If the girls in your troop do not have uniforms, please try to have them dress as much a like as possible. Example: shorts with matching shirts or blouses, socks and gym shoes. Please note: Track shorts, halter-tops and visible sports bras are forbidden!
One table and several chairs will be available. Each group will be expected to provide its own equipment otherwise. The hands on activity area is about 8' x 16'. There is an electrical outlet, extension cord, and tape player and VCR unit available for use. With advance notice, the stage may be able to be reserved for the groups needing a larger, raised area. Time spent helping in the booth can go towards Leadership, Community Service, or other Girl Scout Recognition.
